Nestled at the foot of Sliabh Ciamaltha Silvermines NS is a mixed school with children ranging in age from four years to thirteen years (Junior Infants – 6th class).
We presently have 46 families attending our school and there are 73 children on the roll in the school.The new Silvermines NS school was officially opened on the 20th of June 2012 under the stewardship of the then principal, Mr.
Billy Grace.
It was constructed on the site of the old school which was originally opened in 1905 following procurement of the land from the estate of Lord Dunalley.
While the school caters mainly for children from the Silvermines village surrounding hinterland children travel to the school via bus and car from a large catchment area.
