App includes English and Latvian (3800) medical terms, phrases and questions.
The model for the mobile medical dictionary app was developed in late 2019 as part of the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences (VUAS) internal project "Development of Scientific Research at the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences" - with the cooperation of researchers and students at the VUAS Faculty of Translation Studies (FTS) and at the Information Technologies Faculty (ITF), as well as lecturers and medical doctors at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).
The dictionary includes English and Latvian terms, phrases and questions (around 3800 units in total).
This app will be of particular use to foreign students enrolled in clinical studies at the RSU.
Phrases and audio recordings are useful for a doctors communication with a patient.
The dictionary can also be used in translation studies courses, for translating specialized texts for the medical industry: the core section includes 200 specially selected terminology units (words and word combinations) from the medical field, with focus on terms that might present particular difficulty in translating.
The definitions of these terms include hyperlinks to further information, and examples of use in medical texts.
