Liver biopsy has largely been replaced by non invasive tests such as fibroscan.Fibroscan is not routinely available, has to be maintained by specialised systems and expensive for people in low and middle income countries.APRI and FIB-4 are recognised parameters that have been validated for assessment of liver fibrosis, which can effectively replace the need to use fibroscan in more than 50% of cases.This app was built simply to meet the need for persons that desire to assess liver stiffness without the need to use the internet (as it can be used offline) as well as make quick management decisions.It is relevant to note that users of the app should liaise with their doctors or healthcare professionals in order to decide on the best action in regards to their liver condition.
For example, the WHO has recommended that if a chronic hepatitis B patient has an APRI score of >2, they should be commenced on antiviral agents.
