With Crisis Self Help you always have your emergency plan (crisis plan) at hand that you can apply, alone or with others, if you notice that your emotions are getting too much for you.
This provides insight, but also teaches you how to deal with certain events or emotions and prevent things from getting out of hand.Crisis Self-help helps (if you suffer from psychological complaints) to prevent a crisis situation, because you become aware of a possible emerging crisis at an early stage.
In that case, you can contact an important loved one, your GP or another care provider, so you can get help before it is too late.Important characteristics of a crisis are:1.
You can no longer calm your thoughts (worrying).2.
You feel the tensions in your body.3.
You have a strong tendency to do dangerous or unhelpful things to get rid of that bad feeling or tension.Crisis planComplete your crisis plan alone or together with others on Crisis Self-help.
Think about what you feel in a certain situation, what you (or others) should or shouldnt do.

What are events that evoke pleasant or less pleasant feelings?
What exercises can you do to distract yourself so that annoying emotions fade into the background?Find out which crisis skills suit youBy crisis skills we mean skills that you can apply that make it easier to get through a crisis moment.
For example, breathing exercises and counting exercises.
Crisis skills are about performing them with attention.
Try to focus as much as possible on the skill you are doing.
The more you manage to focus your attention on it, the more the nasty thoughts fade into the background, making you calmer.
It is important to practice at least one skill that you can use anytime, anywhere.
