About Fish Talk
Fish Talk provides key phrases (questions and directions) that are commonly used by fisheries officers during an at-sea or in-port vessel inspection.
Effective communication between a fisheries officer and the master and crew of a fishing vessel is very important, however a language barrier is commonly encountered.
This application will support Pacific fisheries officers to overcome language barriers during an inspection.
In this app, English phrases have been organized into easy reference sections to support the user and translated (text and audio) into Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Spanish.
Fish Talk will lead to safer and more thorough inspections, enhancing the inspecting officer’s ability to detect and deter illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activity.Fish Talk has been designed to assist fisheries officers, however some phrases may not be applicable in all situations.
This application has been funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
