About Kachin Dictionary
This Kachin Dictionary App is an electronic version of “A Dictionary of the Kachin Language” by Dr.
Ola Hanson 1906.
Only minor changes were made.
In this version, glossaries of Rawang, Lhaovo, Zaiwa, Ngochang and Lachik languages are added. In this dictionary the English alphabetical order is followed.
The Jingphaw word is presented in two forms; without tone and with tone.
The latter is presented in [ ] brackets.
For example, the word ‘agat’ is presented with tone as [ăgàt] ‘scatter’ in English. We sincerely thank Mark Wannemacher and SIL who led and supported this project for many years.
We also like to thank all the cultural and literature committees of the respective language groups, many individuals, and different organizations who supported this project. This dictionary is far from perfection.
It needs much more work to be done.
But we are making it available what we have so far to Kachin peoples and scholars who are interested in Kachin languages. At this point we are unable to provide phonological descriptions and explanation of different tone marks that are used in this lexicon.
We intend to include these information and also Burmese definition soon.
This Kachin lexicon App is free.
