Altstadtrundgang Schönau

The history of the city of Schönau in the Odenwald is inextricably linked with the Cistercian monastery there. This monastery was founded in 1142 and shaped the religious, cultural and economic life of the region for over 400 years before it was abolished in 1558 by the Lutheran Elector Ottheinrich.
In the period that followed, the Koster fell into disrepair, so that today only a few remains are preserved.

The app takes interested visitors on a tour of the old town and explains the historical background of the monastery complex at 28 stations - in its present and original condition. Knowledgeable, professionally spoken texts and a large number of photographs, illustrations, computer simulations and short video sequences create a vivid picture of the life of the monks and lay brothers in the Schönau monastery.
With the option »Find out more« in a further information level, additional detailed information can be called up on the app at various stations.
The app is supplemented by a large number of information signs along the circular route.

In addition to the detailed tour in 28 stations, which is aimed at adults, the app also contains a shortened (20 stations) and simplified version for children and young people (approx. 8-14 years of age). While largely dispensing with historical figures and technical vocabulary, the historical context is told briefly and entertainingly by a young speaker. At the end of this tour, the app offers the young participants the opportunity to take a small quiz. By solving nine tasks, you can show that you have walked through Schönau with open eyes and ears
