In the 50s of the 20th century, the Uelzen district to the west of the Stendal - Bremen (Sternviertel) railway line continued to expand. That is why the Protestant residents living here were removed from their previous parish of St. Marien on April 1, 1958 and merged into the now independent parish of St. Johannis. At the same time, the fifth parish office was transferred from St. Marien to St. Johannis.
Due to the rapid development of the Sternviertel, the congregation quickly grew to up to 8,000 members, which resulted in the establishment of a second pastorate in 1964.
A church room built in 1958 was expanded in a second construction phase in 1960 to form the church as it can be visited today. In 1971, the kindergarten (now a day-care center) in Fritz-Reuter-Strasse was added to the community-owned rooms, and in 1980 the inviting community hall behind the church.
